New City Rotary recently celebrated its 62nd anniversary, having been chartered on March 23, 1953.

Rotary initiates local and global service projects to promote world understanding and peace and to improve the living conditions for people of all ages and cultures.

At a time when volunteer organizations across the country are reporting difficulty recruiting and retaining members, New City Rotary membership has grown significantly.   Internationally, Rotary is proud to have more than 1.2 million members, comprising over 32,000 clubs in 168 different countries.

New City Rotary's service projects have varied over the years as each was developed to fill a need in our local, district or international community. To name a few projects:

  1. We participated in Bicycle Safety programs
  2. Our project of creating & donating Christmas baskets has evolved, because of people's dietary needs; to purchasing gift certificates from local supermarkets and distributing them to the needy.
  3. We Adopted-A-Highway in New City.
  4. We sponsor an Interact Club at ClarkstownNorthHigh School and Rotoract Club at RocklandCommunity College.
  5. We deliver Meals-On-Wheels every Monday.
  6. We invite high school students to a Career Day annually.
  7. Academic, Vocational and Service Scholarships totaling $5,500 are currently offered to qualified, graduating high school students who will be continuing their education.
  8. We support various Rotary International projects by making financial contributions. We are currently actively supporting RI's program to eradicate polio.
  9. Project of Vision--Our Club obtains and donates to Rotary Clubs in third world nations cataract lenses for implantation by local surgeons. The recipient Rotary Club assures that the service is provided to the patient without charge.
  10. Every month we collect and distribute food to a local food pantry.

This is by no means a complete list of New City Rotary projects past or current, just a sample of the Community, Vocational and International services we have undertaken.

The joy of Rotary comes from the camaraderie of meeting weekly with other good people in your community and working together to fulfill worthwhile goals.
